About

Lauren Cochrane is an experienced social media and online community management geek girl who lives in Canberra and works for an Australian non-profit organisation. She’s a vibrant, positive person who seeks to connect with others similarly interested in social media for non-profits and technology in general. Lauren understands Web 2.0 and how the web can be leveraged to build communities and tribes to rally behind causes where traditional marketing and campaigning no longer work.

Lauren “gets” social networking, she understands Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Wordpress, Delicious, Digg, YouTube, Flickr – however, most importantly, she understands it’s not about the tools. It’s about the conversation. It’s not about organisations talking at people. It’s about people within organisations talking with, listening to and building relationships and friendships with those on the outside. Lauren “gets” that a small group of strongly committed supporters who feel part of a movement is more valuable to an organisation than having your radio commercial blasted at a thousand listeners.

Geeking for Good is one of Lauren’s blogging projects where she shares her experiences of utilising social media within the non-profit organisation she currently works for. She also provides valuable advice on how other organisations can use modern web technology to connect with the world to raise awareness and support for their cause.

So if you work for or run a non-profit organisation and need to build up your tribe of supporters and want to get into the social media scene then Geeking for Good is an excellent resource for finding out what social networking tools can do for you and if you have any questions then Lauren would love to hear from you!
